Water Sensory Activities for Kids

We introduced you in early 2021 to the many benefits of Sensory Play for those home schooling with young ones. Terra is welcoming back Chris of @montessoridadsway for more creative and fun activities perfect for these summer weeks ahead! This time Chris has been inspired by our Oceans theme and has two different kids water activities to try with your little ones using  your Terra ocean animal toys.

What you need:

Activity #1.

Our first water activity for kids is an Ocean Bin. This is a simple one to set up and perfect for some outdoor sensory play. Another great thing about this activity is it is suitable for so many ages. Simply add desired amount of water into your bin. Add in a few drops of blue food coloring and mix it around. Add in your marine life animals and your all set for a fun outdoor water play activity.

I have set this one up so many times for my son back when he was just 1 years old. Now at 2 1/2 he loves it even more. He will now spend so much time on and off throughout an afternoon going back to it.

Activity #2 Frozen Ocean

For the Frozen Ocean activity, start by filling either your large bin or smaller bins with water and blue food coloring. Mix it around and add in your marine life animals. Put your bin in the freezer. You can freeze the bin overnight in which case it will be frozen solid. Hand your little ones some scooping tools and a bowl of water to start melting it away.

The other way to play that I totally think is even more fun is only partially freezing the bin. I originally put this in the freezer right after my son went down for his nap. Fast forward 3-4 hours later and I needed an activity for him. I opened the freezer to check on it and the outer area of the bin was frozen but was holding water in the center. I thought this would be more fun and I was right! I handed my son warm water and some smashing tools and he had a blast smashing the ice to get the animals out.

A perfect activity for a hot summer day!
